Since 2007, Take One Digital Media has been a viral video producer for some outright zany stuff promoting the Special Olympics Maryland, MSP Polar Bear Plunge. For 2011 SOMD’s Kelley Schniedwind wanted to take a more serious tone. She enlisted the help of Special Olympics Maryland supporters; Ravens’ QB Joe Flacco, Olympian Kimmie Meissner, former Raven Mike McCrary and Special Olympic athletes. The result was this emotional message within the “On This One Day” video. The video production was conceptualized and written by Producer, Liz Thibodeau and features high-speed shutter footage from 2010’s “blizzard-plunge” and on-camera segments shot by Dan Powell cut with footage from the SOMD games shot by Maryland Public Television. Within 2 days of posting the video it was viewed over 3,000 times on YouTube and 800 impressions on Take One’s Facebook page. Also within a few days, antidotal stories of people deciding to plunge and/or donate to SOMD based on seeing this piece began to surface. Those are the results SOMD Exec Producer Kelley Schniedwind was looking for.
