2009 was our second year producing a viral video promoting the Special Olympics Maryland, MSP Polar Bear Plunge. Our follow up to our trip to Churchill, Canada entailed an 8 part Web series entitled, “The Polar Normal Investigations”, where our crackerjack gum shoe Rick McCool (also writer and director Frank Lama) investigates abnormal polar activity in and around Maryland. Along with Lama, the comedy series features former Raven Michael McCrary, Special Olympic athlete Jimmy Myrick, and a whole cast of characters from Baltimore all the way on down to Sandy Point State Park. The series was conceptualized, written, and produced by Take One Digital Media.
The video campaign was part of a groundbreaking fundraising success for Special Olympics Maryland. The organization raised more than 3.5M dollars on its one day plunge event! The series was released virally on YouTube, on the Plunge Website, Facebook, and in several other social media venues. It met with rave reviews and kept the anticipation up for Plunge Day 2009! Take One has since gone on to continue producing viral video for the Plunge, each year topping the year before with a unique brand of creativity.
