Can Take One's online mail service save messages I send?

To ensure that you are set to save the messages you send, click in the upper right area of the screen on the drop-down list box labeled "Options and Styles..." This will display a menu of options. Click on the option labeled "Preferences." This displays a series of settings you can configure for your online mail. The fifth option from the top is "Save copy of outgoing mail in Sent folder". Click YES.

Among the list of folders on the left of the screen (just below the progress bar indicating how many MB of storage are available) will be a new folder labeled "Sent." Click on it, and you will be able to see any saved sent messages.

Keep in mind that any messages saved here will count as part of your total available space on Take One's mail server.

I am not receiving new e-mail. What's wrong?

Your storage limit has probably been met. All mail accounts have a limit of 5 megabytes. Once you have 5 MB of incoming mail (including attachments) on our servers, no additional mail can be received until you delete some of your mail. You may be able to set your mail client to delete mail from the server after you've downloaded it, or you may have to delete it manually.

It is also possible that your mail client is set up to "leave mail on server," in which case even if you've retrieved all your mail, you may still have exceeded your storage limit. Consult your email software documentation for information on removing email from the server.

What are you doing to control UCE/SPAM?

Unsolicited Commercial E-Mail (or SPAM) is exactly what it sounds like. Many spammers may send mail to common names (john, susan, fred) at various Internet providers in an attempt to reach more people. Valid e-mail addresses are sold in bulk and distributed via CD for the sole purpose of sending you unwanted advertisements.

Blocking SPAM is a difficult problem, and, unfortunately, it is impossible to block all unsolicited e-mail. Spammers are clever, rarely using the same title line more than a few times, making minor changes to email to prevent filtering. Spammers have invented techniques to make their mail virtually impossible to block, such as sending mail directly from dynamically assigned IP addresses, which can change in a matter of minutes.

Take One has adopted industry standard practices to reduce the volume of SPAM sent to our users, including all of the following:

  1. We do not allow relaying of mail from sites outside of our network.

  2. We accept mail only from domains that actually exist.

  3. We maintain a list of "junk mail" domains from which we will not accept mail.

  4. We block messages from specific offending machines or senders.

  5. We provide a fully customizable web-based filtering mechanism that each user can configure to suit his or her own tastes. It is available under the "filtering" menu of the Take One Webmail interface.

  6. We fully support individual filtering based on sender, recipient, or message content.

To allow users as much flexibility as possible, our mail filtering system is customizable on a per-user basis. You can login to the mail filtering system at http://mail.take-one.net:8383 or http://mail.yourdomain.com:8383; more complete information is available there.

If you would like to report a domain that has sent you an excessive volume of unsolicited e-mail, please contact admin@take-one.net.

What does the error "We do not relay" mean?

You can use our servers to receive inbound mail, but to send outbound mail you need to use your home/office network's mail server. Please consult your Internet Service Provider for instructions on how to set up your outgoing mail. (As a result of mail abuse, we have disabled mail relay which is another term for sending mail from your computer via our servers to your mail recipients - on all our mail servers.)

Alternatively, you can use the Take One Webmail interface to send your mail from anywhere in the world.

What is the difference between boxes, aliases, and forwards?

A few quick definitions:

Mailboxes
Mailboxes require a user name and password to log in and check mail. Mailboxes are physical accounts. This is the default for new accounts.

Alias
An alias is an email address that points to one or more different email addresses, without being a physical mailbox. For example, you could set an alias so that all mail sent to bob@domain.com would be sent directly to bobathome@domain.com and bobatwork@domain.com.

Forward
A forwarding address is generally a temporary solution. When the President is out of town, you can set all his email to forward over to his secretary or VP.

A few notes on permissions:

Anyone can setup a forward in their Take One Webmail preferences.

Aliases and mailboxes have to be setup by Administrators. Contact us if you have questions.
